Week 7 Preview
#7 Alabama at Arkansas, Saturday, 6:00 PM – ESPN
This week’s Game of the Week returns to the SEC West as the Crimson Tide look to rebound from last week’s last minute loss to Ole Miss against a rapidly improving Razorbacks team in Fayetteville. The Hogs have two losses to top 14 teams but could easily be sitting at 4-1 and in the Top 25 if they could have held on against a furious Texas A&M comeback two weeks ago.
The Razorbacks have shown to be much more competitive in year two of the Bielema era. They ground game that was a signature of Bielema’s teams at Wisconsin has taken shape and Arkansas has been running over their opponents over the first few games. The Hogs are currently 7th in the country in rushing yards per game and 2nd in rushing touchdowns. Arkansas’ two losses were to 2nd ranked Auburn to open the season and an overtime loss to 14th ranked Texas A&M in a game that the Hogs were in control of for the first three and a half quarters before a late run by the Aggies.
Alabama, winners of three of the last five national championships, is breaking in a new offense under Lane Kiffin and senior QB Blake Sims. There have been some growing pains, as the Crimson Tide have been burdened by turnovers in almost every game. Alabama’s minus 4 turnover margin is tied for 104th in the country and contributed to their loss to Ole Miss last weekend. Arkansas hasn’t been especially great at turning other teams over, but if they get out to an early lead they may be able to use that ball control offense to keep the Blake Sims & co. off the field.
The Razorbacks are looking to snap their 14 game SEC losing streak, while Alabama hasn’t lost two regular season games in a row since 2007. Tune in tomorrow night for this SEC West showdown and be sure to check out these sweet throwbacks Arkansas will be debuting:
